The throb. interview
Valmir Do Carmo
COWBOY CARMO
Since we saw that you recently dubbed yourself Cowboy Carmo, we just have to ask, what do you think of the new Beyoncé album?
“Steven [Val’s husband] liked more than me, I didn’t get into. Some songs are great but it’s not music I would listen to. But I really do love what’s she’s doing!
So now that Shawn has blacklisted you from working with us again, what are your future plans [kidding]. But seriously, how did you get into modeling? Is it something you’re pursuing as a full time career?
“I’ll explain myself to [Shawn] hahahaha. I really do love taking pictures since I was a kid. I love pretending it’s a character and go for it, I didn’t consider as a full time career yet, maybe it’s about time, since I’m already 30.”
I think artist’s have always kind of been this way, but it seems like more people are comfortable not really knowing what they want to be when the grow up. And 30 isn’t old. Julia Child didn’t discover cooking until she was 31. So you have another year to figure it out. 😛
“But for models and entertainment, 30 is already a little bit old 🥹”
If it makes you feel any better we’re aging much more slowly. Madonna is older now than Betty White was when Golden Girls started. Madonna isn’t old, right? You’re only as old as you think you are.
“Wow that’s so true.”
How else do you like to spend your time apart from modeling? Any side hustles you’d like to promote?
“I’m a little bit of everything, I can be a babysitter during the day and a gogo dancer at nights, it’s part of living in New York City.”
Which job is more challenging, child care or dancing?
“Child care, definitely. I feel nature when I’m dancing.”
Where have you danced recently?
“Club Cumming and I’m dancing there again on the 27th.”
What is you favorite song to dance to?
“Any Britney song.”
Why do you love Britney?
“Tell me why not. Everything about her is fascinating. The fact that she went through what happened to her and still here alive doing what she wants the way she wants after thirteen years almost in slavery conditions is remarkable. She will always be iconic. It’s Britney, b*tch.”
Do you think it’s fair to say straight people don’t really appreciate pop music? Why don’t think that is? What are people missing who don’t appreciate pop divas?
“I had this idea back in Brazil but not so much over here, pop music is everywhere here. But yeah, nobody knows how to worship a pop diva better than a gay man.”
I think once you get out of big cities like New York, parts of the US are probably more like Brazil. But expand on this. What draws gay men to pop divas?
“The confidence that they have on stage, the way they share their stories and who they are through the art. Plus performances, coreography, music videos, big concerts. I don’t get the same fire energy coming from male singers, excluding Michael Jackson.”
And you mentioned that dancing comes naturally. So how did you end up in child care? You came to the United States as an au pair, right? What was that like?
“I always had a great relationship with children, and this exchange experience showed up and it was a very good opportunity to learn English. It was the most crazy but amazing experience I ever had, but I wouldn’t do it again hahaha.”
You can’t just leave it at there. Why crazy?
“Well, you move from another country to live with a family totally different than yours, a whole new culture and you’re responsible for 1 or more kids. It’s insane!”
And this happened during COVID, correct? So not only were you living with strangers but you were quarantined with them, right?
